Self-care Challenge- Day 9: Stillness

Can you believe it’s Monday again? If you’re anything like me, Mondays can get pretty hectic. Today, make some time for stillness.

When you feel like you most need it (or when it feels most convenient… or whenever, really), slip away from whatever you’re doing and search for a place of stillness.

Maybe your place of stillness is your bedroom closet. I know I’ve hidden in my closet a few times in my life.

Maybe your place of stillness is your car. I’ve definitely hung out in my car for a moment of quiet.

Maybe your place of stillness is the park, under a tree, in the grass.

Wherever you find your stillness, sit for a moment. Take a few deep breaths. Listen and pay attention to where your mind wanders.

Are you judging yourself for needing a break?… Everyone needs a breather.

Are you making a list of things you need to do later?… This task can wait.

Is there a moment in your life right now that’s bothering you?… I want you to let that go for a few minutes and enjoy a moment of peace.

Often, we overlook these moments of stillness. We try to fill our days with tasks we need to get done. Every second is taken up by chores, work, or taking care of someone else. What if we took just a few minutes every day to sit in stillness? Let the world go on while we rested?

For me, I know that moments of stillness fill my cup. Moments of stillness recharge my batteries and give me the energy to go on with my day. If I don’t pause and take time for stillness, I feel drained and am of no use to anyone, not even myself.

What does your moment of stillness look like? Where did your mind wander off to and how did you bring it back to the present?

Thank you!
