Self-care Challenge- Day 25: Self-Compassion

Most of us are taught from an early age to show kindness to others. Our guardians would spout off the saying, “Treat others how you want to be treated.”

What about treating yourself how you want others to treat you?

Why is it so hard for us to show kindness to ourselves?

When I’m having a bad day, I find myself saying negative things about myself. I try not to do this around my kids but every once in a while, it just happens. And my kids will be shocked.

“Mommy, you’re not that!”

“Mommy, why would you say that about yourself?”

“Mommy, you’re beautiful.”

My kids remind me that words can hurt and what I’m doing is just hurting myself.

Today, as you go about your day, find a little self-compassion.

See if you’re saying negative things to yourself and try to remember, those words do not make up who you are. Those are just bad thoughts that have no actual bearing on your worth or ability.
