For many, the idea of a routine can sound dull. Who wants to do the same thing over and over again, every day, for the rest of their lives? But, there’s research out there that suggest that having some routine to our days can be beneficial.

According to this article from Headspace, daily routines can help alleviate symptoms related to bipolar disorder, ADHD, and insomnia. Having a rhythm to your day can also help decrease feelings of anxiety. It’s the unknown that can trigger an anxiety attack. Having something you can predict can be comforting to people who have chronic anxiety (like me).
Having a schedule you can follow also helps reduce stress. Some believe that if we schedule out tasks like chores, paying bills, and exercise, they become easier to accomplish and it becomes a habit.
Today, pay attention to where you have rhythms when you go about your day. Where do patterns emerge? Or, is there a part of your day where you wish you had a routine? What small step can you take to start a new routine?
