My internship at Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District wrapped up this week. I swear, I had intended on writing a post for each day I worked buuuuut… this term was super busy.

A lot of my internship consisted of participating in group fitness classes. I really loved learning how different fitness instructors design their classes, cue movements, and interact with participants. I also helped with youth weight training camp.

I was able to help out in the weight room, provide support for staff at each center, and assisted at events. My internship also required a big project to be worked on during the internship. I made some educational brochures for patrons. Everyone talks about how exercise and physical activity is important but not many know what to focus on or how much to do. I created four brochures, using information and recommendations from ACSM, the CDC, and the American Heart Association.

For my project, I wanted to merge my art background with my passion for physical activity. I drew the two illustrations on the right using Procreate. Doing the research, making the information accessible, and assembling everything into a brochure was super fun. I was so happy they let me do this project and gave me the freedom to design these.

If anyone is interested in an internship at THPRD, I highly recommend it. I learned so much and it’s an experience that quite literally changed my life.
